Apply To Be A Ranger
Join our community of London and Become a London National Park City Ranger
Rangers are the heart of London National Park City; passionate volunteers from across the city running grassroots nature recovery projects in their own neighbourhoods. They are the people making London visibly greener, healthier, and wilder, one community at a time.
Most Rangers are already doing something when they find us, a community garden, a local nature project, an idea that has been growing for a while. Becoming a Ranger gives that work a supportive community, practical resources, and the backing to go further.
What do you get from being a Ranger?
When you join the Ranger community, you gain access to funding, resources, and a network of over 190 like minded people from across London. We will support you with skills, training, and peer learning to help you flourish — and your contribution will be recognised and celebrated.
- Funding through our small grants programme
- Training, field trips and peer learning with Rangers and the LNPC team
- Working groups across education, urban greening, upcycling, podcasting, and more
- An active, supportive community of Rangers across London
What Do Rangers Do?
What a Ranger does is largely up to them — they know their community best. It might mean running events at a local allotment, building a pollinator trail, organising nature walks, creating nature-inspired art, or supporting people to engage with their local green spaces.Â
What Rangers share is a belief that every part of London deserves to be greener, wilder, and more connected to nature — including the parts that do not look like that yet. Rangers work across nature, wildlife, art, culture, sport, and community, and together their projects make the London National Park City vision real.
What Are We Looking For?
We are looking for honest, passionate, and dedicated people who want to make a positive difference – and who are ready to act on it. Rangers come from all walks of life and bring different skills, backgrounds, and ideas. Some work quietly behind the scenes. Others are comfortable speaking publicly or to the media.
What we ask is that you bring your skills and knowledge to the community, commit to getting involved, and are willing to share what you know with others. Tell us what you care about, what you are good at, and what you want to build.

The Ranger Commitment
What is the Ranger Commitment?
Our aim is to make the programme accessible to as many people as possible. We understand everyone’s lives look different, including the amount of time they have to give.
Â
Be active in a way that works for you
We want to see all of our Rangers take an active role in working towards our greener, healthier, and wilder mission in their local communities. But whatever this looks like, we want you to make sure it fits in your life in a manageable way. This might look like being involved in a regular project like a weekly community garden session, or leading a nature walk that might occur monthly or quarterly, or running nature inspired arts workshops or events from time to time across the year.Â
Take part
As well as being actively involved in a project we ask all Rangers to attend at least two Ranger programme activities or events each year, to sign up to the Ranger Hub and Ranger Directory and to join the programme mailing list.Â
Ranger Benefits and Resources
London National Park City is committed to securing as many resources as we can to help your Ranger projects grow or get off the ground and to support everything that you do!Â
Training, peer support and networking
All Rangers begin with a shared induction, bringing the new cohort together from the start. From there, a range of optional training sessions and workshops run throughout the year, shaped around the interests and needs of the community
Part of something bigger
With over 190 Rangers active across London, you join a network of people with a huge range of skills, backgrounds, and projects. London National Park City will use its platform to champion you and your work — helping more people hear about what you are doing and why it matters.
Access To Funding
You might run your project in your own time or as your professional work.Â
Being a Ranger with London National Park City is voluntary (unpaid) we support with funding for travel to events, and our small grants programme can help you fund your projects with grants from £250-5000.
