Ending 2023 on some high-notes

Thank you for supporting and being involved with the National Park City movement through 2023. We hope that you, your friends and families are all now well into the Christmas spirit and are looking forward to a proper break over the holidays.

This has been a bumper year for National Park City and we’re glad to say that we end the year on a number of high notes.

A few weeks ago we secured core funding from the National Lottery which puts us on a firm footing for London National Park City in 2024 and beyond. We’ll be announcing two new hires early in the new hire to join our small staff team as a result.

Our summer #DoLondonDifferently billboard campaign was a huge success, showcasing over 40 of our Rangers and community groups active in improving biodiversity neighbourhoods all across London. We’ll be looking to extend this success into the new year and beyond. There are so many wonderful stories to tell in every part of London.

Hopefully you’ll come and visit us when we launch our first pop-up Visitors Centre at 109 Fleet Street, just down from St Pauls in the City of London. We’ll be fully open to the public from Thursday 1st February, with some events in the run up to this in late January – all the details will be on our community site.

Across the world we announced five new Nominated National Park Cities – Breda and Rotterdam in the Netherlands, Glasgow and Southampton in the UK, and Chattanooga in the USA, all aiming to join London and Adelaide in becoming National Park Cities. We have so much to learn from their journeys and we’ll be sharing their progress widely as we see who’ll be the next city to become greener, healthier and wilder.

I’d like to extend a special thanks to our amazing Ranger and volunteers who have been so instrumental in supporting us over the year. Our Rangers really are the best of us and we’re looking forward to supporting their work and telling their stories over the months to come.

We hope you have a wonderful restful break over the Holidays and we look forward to seeing you next year.

All the best

Mark, Ed and the whole National Park City team
