Ranger Programme
How our Ranger Programme works
Our Ranger programme has been designed to meet the diverse needs of our 180 strong London-wide Ranger community and is continually being evaluated and developed as our volunteer network grows and evolves.
Ranger roles are voluntary (unpaid), we cover associated expenses that enable people to take part. Many who apply will already be doing activities aligned with our vision. We take in a new cohort of Rangers at least once a year.
If offered a place on the programme we ask you to take part in our induction, and when you become a Ranger you’ll use your time in three ways:
Connect
Being part of an engaged and active community – sharing your skills and experiences with each other and with community groups and individuals in streets and neighbourhoods across London.
Ignite
Inspire, deliver and support actions that make Londoner greener, healthier and wilder. Get more people enjoying themselves outdoors with events, projects and activities or collaborations with other local groups and individuals
Amplify
Help to celebrate and champion the National Park City movement with events, articles, taking part in campaigns, and representing the movement that we are all part of.

The Ranger Commitment
What is the Ranger Commitment?
Our aim is to make the programme accessible to as many people as possible. We understand everyone’s lives look different, including the amount of time they have to give.
Be active in a way that works for you
We want to see all of our Rangers take an active role in working towards our greener, healthier, and wilder mission in their local communities. But whatever this looks like, we want you to make sure it fits in your life in a manageable way. This might look like being involved in a regular project like a weekly community garden session, or leading a nature walk that might occur monthly or quarterly, or running nature inspired arts workshops or events from time to time across the year.
Take part
As well as being actively involved in a project we ask all Rangers to attend at least two Ranger programme activities or events each year, to sign up to the Ranger Hub and Ranger Directory and to join the programme mailing list.
Seasonal Programme
Working in rhythm with the seasons, we bring Rangers together in community at key in-person events at each season, from our #SummerRangerExchange (peer-to-peer project visits) to our autumnal Celebration Month (think Ranger-led shared meals, campfire gatherings and moonlight storytelling sessions).
Field Trips
While our focus is on creating a greener, wilder, and healthier London, we want Rangers to draw inspiration from transformative greening and growing projects UK-wide. Our funded Field Trips take Rangers on a learning journey to locations including everything from large-scale National Parks to city centre mixed-use developments.
Training
We want our Rangers to be equipped with the skills and tools they need to succeed at both a project and personal level. Our training modules and workshops are hands-on and fully responsive to current skills needs within the community. From stakeholder-engagement workshops to practical planting sessions, we’ve got it covered.
