Denmark Hill Community Garden is a small ‘open allotment’ on the Denmark Hill Estate, serving a diverse residential community.

Born out of a need to cultivate food locally during the nationwide lockdown, it has grown exponentially (+400%) in size since its inception in 2020 and now also offers a regular programme of events and workshops. In 2023, our funding has focused on bolstering food growing capabilities at the garden, where produce is diverted to a number of initiatives including a local food bank.

In practice this has supported: the purchase of seeds, compost and material to support the rotation of crops including horticultural fleece, stakes and fruit nets. Additionally, funding was used to deliver weekly volunteer sessions (eight volunteers per session) and six workshops for a total of 60 community members.
