Friends of Graham Street Park (FROGS) is a volunteer-run charity based on the South Islington and Hackney border, creating vital opportunities for families in an area where most households lack access to private outdoor space. Rooted in community action, FROGS works to ensure Graham Street Park is a welcoming, active, and inclusive green space for everyone.

One of FROGS’ most popular initiatives is its subsidised forest school programme for children aged 3.5–6. These sessions offer hands-on learning through outdoor play, food growing, nature crafts, and exploration. The programme helps children build confidence and life skills, develop a lasting connection with nature, and form friendships across the area’s richly diverse community of families.

What is FROGS?

Founded in 2015, Friends of Graham Street Park (FROGS) was set up to give local residents a collective voice on all matters relating to Graham Street Park. The charity is run by an active group of local volunteers who work closely with partners and the council to care for, improve, and animate the park.

Typical FROGS activities include:

Running a community kiosk from the former park keeper’s hut, raising funds that are reinvested directly back into the park
Managing a Little Free Library, Edible Garden, and community composting scheme
Partnering with The Orchard Project to care for a small community orchard, home to apple, pear, plum, cherry, fig, and crab apple trees, alongside a wide range of fruit bushes
Hosting a year-round programme of family-friendly events, bringing local residents together in the park

Working with Islington Council Green Spaces to maintain and develop the park, including regular communal planting activities
