The Greenway Get-Together was a first partnership between Newham Hospital (part of Barts Health NHS Trust) and neighbouring Greenway Orchard.

The day gave hospital staff the chance to step outside and discover the green spaces right on their doorstep – from SUGi planted urban forest and wild bee garden, all the way to the welcoming orchard.

Raised beds were planted on the day with fresh herbs and vegetables, and divided between herbs, edible flowers, berries and vegetables. Children decorated slate labels for the plants.

Nature inspired arts workshops included painting and sketching in nature, weaving with foraged leaves and making berry-ink artwork. There were guided wildlife walks that took people on a journey through the orchard, SUGi urban forest, wild bee garden, and meadows.

Visitors also had the chance to meet the friendly orchard volunteers, who shared stories about their regular sessions and encouraged others to get involved. All took away flower and vegetable seeds with them to plant later.

National Park City funding helped a new noticeboard creation with the aim to increase volunteer numbers to the weekly orchard planting sessions.
