The Volunteer Rangers are a network of passionate people with a wide range of experiences and talents who will help make London healthier, greener and wilder, contributing to our shared vision to make London a city where people, places and nature are better connected. The Rangers will work in their local communities and across the Capital on projects to tackle the climate & ecological crises, scale greening initiatives and conservation activities, run education and youth programmes, improve access to green and blue space and inspire Londoners to eat better, get outside to exercise, explore and have fun!

Aashifa is a barista trainer, she works for a CIC called Well Grounded, working with and enabling those experiencing barriers to employment with coffee skills to gain successful employment. She is passionate about women’s empowerment and has co-founded an events organisation to create safe and inclusive spaces for women to upskill and network. She loves public speaking and training and wants to use these skills to engage communities and everyone who lives in London to connect with nature and take action to improve the city. Instagram: @jalebae Adrian is a Transport Planner who has been involved with high profile transport infrastructure projects to create people first solutions to the challenges of urban mobility. He believes green space and public health can be built into design to create incredible places for people to live, work and play. He currently works with the Football Association at Wembley Stadium, which lies at the heart of one of London's biggest regeneration schemes. The Wembley Park masterplan is injecting new life into the area, including an improved public realm for the local community to enjoy a greener and healthier neighbourhood. Alastair has worked in the property and construction sector for 12 years, specialising in environmental impact around the climate and ecological crises. He works with businesses, local authorities, universities, and NGOs to create progressive policy, education programmes, and guidance documents. He co-founded a community gardening project where he lives and currently works for the UK Green Building Council. With a teaching and youth work background, Alex brings a wealth of experience working with young people to the Ranger team. Alex has recently completed a Masters where her final project created a soundscape centred on a city's green areas in previously underused space. Amy recently completed her PhD, which investigated art as one way of engaging the wider public in social and political conversations. This is one of Amy's passions, and many of her own art projects have an environmental focus, including those on urban conservation. She has experience running gardening and food growing workshops and small-scale programmes. She also recently ran a programme encouraging university students to eat better and to exercise and experience nature. Amy lives at Sanford Housing Co-operative, where she plays an active role in maintaining and developing their green spaces. These projects all relate to Amy's passion for creating spaces for nature, including through rewilding and urban conservation. He has recently set up a climate action group in the local community. He brings urban gardening experience, as well as a specialism and focus on rewilding spaces. Currently, he volunteers with Action for Conservation, Friends of South Norwood Country Park and works with The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) on local projects and spaces around South Norwood. Instagram: @andyatchappel Anna is an amateur, long-distance triathlete with a real passion for being in the outdoors. Anna has led expeditions in orienteering, trail runs and races and believes these are an essential means of exploring and appreciating the outdoors. Anna also works as an engineer in low carbon energy and climate change policy so brings experience in two very different areas to the Ranger team! Instagram: @anna0lawson Anni spent the first 14 years of her life in London before moving to Hong Kong for 2 years. Now back in London and actively involved in the student climate strikes, Anni is passionate about provoking positive and realistic change both for a healthy city but also an improved quality of life for Londoners. Anni loves acting and directing and is a strong believer in the power of theatre and creativity in communicating the vision of London National Park City. Ben has been a Geography teacher for 10 years. He has always had a passion for spending time outdoors and has conducted training for, and taken part in, various Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. He loves teaching young people, particularly when they can apply their learning to their local environment and see that they can have a positive impact. He organised many field trips to various locations around London to help students to understand the spaces that we use, and the impacts that we have on our city landscape. He’d love to work with teachers and other professionals who can help develop resources and opportunities for students to make the most of outdoor opportunities across London. Twitter: @mrbishopgeog Ben has advocated and been involved in jobs and volunteering directly linked to the conservation, study of and increasing awareness of London ecosystems. He works with volunteer groups from businesses, schools and local communities, providing outdoor education, running citizen science activities and facilitating conservation action to improve urban green spaces. He has a strong connection to the East London green spaces and valley parks such as Epping Forest, the Lea Valley and the Roding Valley as they are the spaces that connect him to his place of work, which he enjoys in his free time. Instagram: @benbish1 Chantal is a Londoner who loves hiking and has recently discovered the joys of walking in her own city. Always having had an interest in animals and the natural world, she graduated in Zoology & Psychology. She strongly believes that a connection with nature is critical for mutual health and wellbeing and will result in a natural respect of the environment. She understands how important it is to draw people’s attention to green spaces particularly in cities and has a Shinrin Yoku (Forest bathing) guiding certificate. She is currently working on the Wanderful London project which aims to uncover the amazing wildlife, green spaces and events and knowledge across London by creating a green platform accessible to Londoners. In her spare time, she enjoys creating habitats for wildlife i Charlie is passionate about fresh and nutritious local resources. Working collaboratively across plant science and nutrition, food security and botanical design, he explores new avenues of self-sufficiency to help ourselves and the environment. Charlie has seasoned experience in diversified agriculture, horticulture and London-based community development whilst maintaining a rich interest in placemaking and rewilding. Previous work includes a London-based urban farming, arts & culture venue in association with Sustain - the alliance for better food and farming. Charlie has a particular interest in nature, especially invertebrates - despite being beautiful and important, minibeasts can often be overlooked. Charlie works for the Mission: Invertebrate project at The Royal Parks as well as volunteering at the Westbury Banks Nature Reserve, a derelict site transformed by volunteers into a green space for the community. In 2012 he founded MindFood a charity that has supported over 600 people to tackle anxiety and depression in a natural way through their free food growing courses. He has recently trained in horticulture, completing the 'Work and Retrain As a Gardener' (WRAG) scheme alongside residential gardening in West London. He has worked in fundraising teams for some of the UK’s most well known charities including NSPCC, Mind, Teenage Cancer Trust and Scope. He has just started as Business Development Manager at Gunnersbury Park CIC leading on income generation and partnerships. He is bringing his experience of business development, corporate fundraising, Trust fundraising, commis Danielle is a wildlife photographer with a degree in zoology and her favourite location is London! She believes there is so much exciting wildlife located in the city and as many species are familiar with people, it's really easy getting up close. She wants to inspire and engage other city dwellers about our amazing wildlife through her images, and to encourage them to spend more time outside. Most of her images on Instagram are taken in London and she'd love to spend the year focusing on some key species and locations in London. She'd love the opportunity to photograph peregrine falcon chicks being ringed and other exciting conservation work being done in the city. Instagram: @daniconnorwild David is an active Volunteer in London with Park Friends’ Groups and a Greening Group, planting hedges, bulbs, river clearing of debris, litter, improving flow and habitat; litter picking and ad hoc repairing, assisting the Parks’ teams and the Environment agency in identifying problems and suggesting solutions. He has experience in maintaining a Green Triangle in his area by litter picking, creating habitat, cutting up fallen trees and planting new ones, as well as tidying and improving the local railway embankment. He takes photographs, studies and observes the environment, wildlife and habitat; and loves communicating to young and old to spread his passion for a greener, bluer, healthier, wilder and better educated world. He has previously contributed to the draft Lee Forum Plan on Dipa is a communications specialist with a particular interest in story capturing and digital media. She has worked for food charities and conducted research on land rights both abroad and in the UK. In her spare time she volunteers with Transition Town Tooting, with her local community garden and has worked with refugees and asylum seekers in South London. She also set up Taste of Tooting, which offered visitors a taste of Tooting’s cultural heritage through tours of local food-growing spaces and independent food businesses. Dipa will be working with Ranger Ingrina Shieh to profile and connect individuals growing food which links them to their cultural heritage in the boroughs of Lambeth and Wandsworth. Ebs is a presenter and broadcaster and has acted as the main host for National Park City events. Emily has volunteered for lots of local organisations and loves to discover, learn from, and share knowledge from wildlife organisations. He has been teaching foraging for wild food and medicine for years. He has a strong belief that if people understand what a fantastic resource they have, they'll appreciate it and look after it better. He currently works for an organisation called Totally Wild UK who teach foraging for food and medicine all over the UK and he covers the London area. She particularly loves to find ways for young people to engage positively with the outdoors. As a primary trained special needs teacher, she has worked in a variety of settings to help young people access, engage with and treasure the natural world. Currently, she is the Environmental Education Officer at Greenpeace and is undergoing training to become a Forest School Instructor. She hopes to bring the fun of our green city to more young people. Giorgia has 15 years of experience working as a sustainability professional in London's built environment sector. As such, she has in-depth knowledge of sustainability issues and the value of nature in mitigating them, the London planning system, and the challenges faced by local authorities and developers in safeguarding nature. She has already worked with National Park City Foundation and UrbanGood to deliver the first borough scale London National Park City map for Greenwich. She is currently Head of Sustainability at Berkeley Homes and as part of the Make Life Better campaign, she convinced 96 colleagues to take on the team challenge of walking the London Outer Orbital Path. Giorgia is a Volunteer Officer for The Conservation Volunteers Green Gym in Waltham Forest. Through work, volunteering and studying sustainability, Giorgia has developed a wide and diverse understanding of the current and future issues facing the environment. Combined with her optimism and enthusiasm, Giorgia is looking to bring a fresh and creative approach to making London a greener, wilder and healthier City! Greg is an arboriculturist with a passion for community education and engagement with trees. Greg leads guided tree walks with a difference - linking ecology with folklore, mythology and our heritage with trees; reconnecting people with their history and shared experiences of trees. Being passionate about the planet and all life on it, Helen is eager to support young people in getting involved in local greenspaces and work with local communities to see how we can better use our common land to provide all that we need. Ingrina has a passion for urban social design and is keen to address how she can involve ethnic minority communities in London’s urban agriculture scene. She also has a personal interest in active travel, sustainability, and making the city a people-friendly environment. Currently her day job is at the London Waste and Recycling Board working on CIRCuIT, a Horizon 2020 project focussed on implementing circular and sustainable approaches in construction within the city. She loves being active outdoors, whether it's running from park to park, walking, or hiking. Together with Ranger Dipa Patel, their plan is to connect with ethnic minority individuals and groups in the boroughs of Lambeth, Wandsworth, and Southwark, who are actively growing their cultural food from seed. Instagram: @agre Izzy has experience in the field of political activism and has organised groups in many of the recent school protests, engaging young people in activism and environmental action. She has been involved recently in an oyster restoration project, where she worked with The Blue Marine Foundation in conserving marine life in and around Southampton. Prior to moving to London, Jamie was involved with local habitat conservation volunteering in and around Oxford. Now based in Hackney, Jamie volunteers with OrganicLea in Waltham Forest to promote knowledge about food growing and community wellbeing. With digital marketing, editing and website experience Jamie is a welcomed addition to the Ranger team. Twitter: @jreecebowman Jim has a professional diploma in Social and Therapeutic Horticulture and has completed the Gardeniser Pro practitioner course with Erasmus and Social Farms and Gardens. He loves to learn, discover and then show to others the wonder of life all around us. He has been working and engaging with community groups for over 25 years in social housing. He is currently the community garden manager with Sufra NW London where he is successfully growing on a derelict space in a large Brent estate – St Raphael’s Estate in Stonebridge. He has experience working with people living with SEN needs, people who experience English as a second language, refugees, asylum seekers and volunteers. As a Ranger, Jonas is looking to support and develop the creation of community gardens and explore ideas for alternative ways of urban farming. Jonas is keen to help people in accessing and valuing the outdoors, whether through physical activities or providing new opportunities to explore the city. Josh is interested in greening and biodiversity projects and is a founding partner of theWholeStory - an organisation that works with individuals and companies to explore the role of storytelling in communication. Josh has been delivering training to our National Park City Champions and will continue to support fellow Rangers in using storytelling to spread the word of London National Park City. Kabir volunteers for a number of community run wildlife sites and developed the interactive map ‘Nature Reserves of London’. Through writing, blogging, public speaking and social media, Kabir brings attention to the green and blue spaces in the capital and how individuals can make a difference on their doorstep. Alongside this role she is involved with many other organisations- working to ensure an engaging and effective geography curriculum for all. She is passionate about providing wide-ranging opportunities for students beyond the classroom- especially young people who don't have the confidence to explore their own city. She hopes to inspire people and reunite them with green spaces through the London National Park City and help to spread a culture of appreciation of nature and the wildness across our city. Katie brings significant experience in coordinating, curating and delivering nature connection programmes, talks and events to the Ranger team. Katie is developing a wonderful ‘Stories By Moonlight’ initiative to encourage outdoor reading, storytelling and nature connection. Keith’s focus is on the practical, and has created raised beds, benches from discarded kitchen and dining chairs and a greenhouse from a donated wooden shed for the community garden. Reusing and repurposing items is a passion of Keith’s and a brilliant skill that he is bringing to the Ranger community. Kristian is passionate about promoting opportunities for children and their families across London and has a track record of doing so over the past seventeen years. Part of this, he has been promoting opportunities within the local community and supporting engagement with their local environment in a meaningful way. In paid and voluntary roles, he has been involved in public events that have championed health, wellbeing and activity, from Mental Health workshops, community gardening sessions, healthy eating, cycling and BMX coaching, arts and other youth work activities. Lauren has recently completed a research Masters in Biodiversity, Evolution and Conservation, and is currently involved in molecular ecology research at the Natural History Museum. Lauren brings to the Ranger team a passion for science communication, with a twist - Lauren communicates her work through infographics, illustrations and animations. Lesley is also a Beekeeper and has been a London National Park City Maker, Ambassador and Champion since the start of the movement. Lesley supports a number of community groups in many ways, as well as working with schools, and is involved with the Peckham Coal Line - a project creating a new park across the centre of Peckham. In 2019, Lesley received the Acorn Award in the London Tree and Woodland Awards - an award for an individual member of the public who has made a particular contribution to promoting or conserving trees. Lily has completed two levels of the Duke of Edinburgh’s award focusing on nature and outdoor space, as well as being involved in local tree planting projects. Lily strongly believes in the need to get young people excited and involved with nature - for the benefits both to our wildlife but also personally for our physical and mental health. This includes brand and digital strategy, content strategy and content design, online community building and user experience research. As a researcher, she has expertise in listening to people’s stories and uncovering insights from what they’ve shared. She is also a qualified yoga teacher. Lizzie works for Paddington Development Trust supporting health based volunteering in deprived communities in North Westminster, and brings significant experience in community engagement and developing and delivering training and support sessions. Instagram: @zizzlie Three years ago, Luke set up the Westbury Banks Nature Reserve and turned a known fly tipping hotspot into a Nature Reserve. The Reserve has secured long term funding from the Noel Park Big Local and is constituted as a friends group. Luke has helped other local friends groups secure funding for setting up projects and provides them with guidance when dealing with third parties. Luke is currently working with Future Wood Green BID to rejuvenate disused flower beds at Wood Green Library into a thriving habitat for wildlife and people! Heston Action Group has participated at a number of London NPC events including speaking at the Mayoral summit. Mar is looking to both expand the work of Heston Action Group and support other communities in caring for their local area. Twitter: @HestonActionG Facebook: Heston Action Group Matthew is a writer, editor and multimedia storyteller, who has specialised in working with under-represented voices and helping new writers to tell their own stories about their neighbourhoods, communities, and natural environments. In his career as a journalist, he has specialised in writing on nature and cities, and how we can design our built environment to be more productive and wilder. He is currently developing The Manuals - www.themanuals.org - which works with ecologists, architects, gardeners, artists, farmers, and a range of experts and regular people to create a set of instructions for reappropriating objects and infrastructure to provide for other species. Max currently volunteers as a Volunteer Officer with The Conservation Volunteers leading outdoor conservation and tree planting sessions in local green spaces. Max is also on the sustainability team for Pride in London - working to make future Pride activities as sustainable as possible. Michael leads wild food walks and fungi forays, helping people to get to know their botanical and fungal neighbours. He believes that the first step to rewilding our city is to rewild our minds. Often dismissed as ‘weeds’ or ‘poisonous’, just a subtle shift in perception can transform weeds into wildflowers or turn fungi into friends rather than a source of fear. His goal is to help make London wilder and greener by inspiring Londoners to discover the ‘hidden’ nature under their noses. He volunteers with Limmud, a Jewish cultural organisation, as well as the Friends of Ainslie and Larks Woods (FoAL) in Waltham Forest, giving talks on nature connection, fungi and foraging. Paul is always looking for new projects and people to work with to make London greener! Instagram: @paulyouthed Regina works with cities globally on climate change adaptation and the many co-benefits of creating a greener city – from better air quality, increased physical and mental health, to carbon capture, and adapting to hotter temperatures and flooding. She has organised many climate change related workshops over the past years and has been volunteering at different hands-on urban greening activities across London – like planting trees, protecting wetlands and building garden beds on parking lots. She loves discovering green spaces in between London’s buzzing and diverse city life and would love to inspire Londoners to be nature explorers in their own city! Ronald is a communication specialist with an interest in community gardens and green policy. Ronald is keen to use his communication skills to spread the word of the National Park City and work with other Rangers and the local community to set up community gardens. Simon is the Head Warden of Stanmore Common Local Nature Reserve and he sits on the committee of the Harrow Nature Conservation Forum. He is also the Wildlife Advisor for the Harrow Parks Forum, the umbrella group for the different parks Friends Groups and co-runs a social enterprise which links families to nature activities in parks and nature reserves called Harrow Nature Heroes. He is a keen naturalist, loves working outdoors and working with people of all ages. He is an experienced bird watcher and has done a lot of work on fungi, bats and many other groups of animals and plants. He is experienced at leading group walks, both in the mountains and in London covering various urbanism topics and climate change. He has led all aspects of volunteer programmes for young people interested in careers in sustainable development and he is a member of the local (Walworth) Community Garden network through which he has helped rewild and garden their local areas. In particular, Sue volunteers in Kensington gardens allotment, is an active member of Peabody Avenue and Close gardening club, and has a love of planting for bees and insects. Sue is looking forward to supporting groups and individuals to develop the passion for nature that she has! Theresa’s specialism is as the Kitchen Buddy director, Nutritional Therapist and naturopathic chef. She writes for publications in partnership with the NHS and as a new botanical artist for www.kitchenbuddies.eu As a seasonal medicinal plant urban forager of 16 years, Theresa enjoys educating on the impact that seasonal and local plants have on our wellbeing. She has engaged with several borough councils, local charities and a royal florist, to educate people of all ages on sustainable lifestyles and the current importance of wild edible weeds for strengthening our immunity, on her nature walks across the capital and across the UK.
