Covering 14.5 acres in Kingston Upon Thames (KT2 5AW), Canbury Gardens has a rich history. Once used for grazing and turf cutting, it later became a gravel extraction site. By 1887, the area was considered an eyesore, prompting plans for a park to enhance the riverside view.

Designed by Henry Macaulay, the gardens opened in 1890. A year later, former mayor Charles Nuthall donated the bandstand, which remains a focal point, hosting Sunday afternoon concerts throughout the summer.
