The River Roding is London’s third largest river. Although it has in recent decades been forgotten and often neglected, the Friends of the River Roding, together with the River Roding Trust aim to protect and restore it for the benefit of wildlife, local people and the river itself.
Our work on the river includes removing rubbish, planting trees, making benches, creating and maintaining paths, re-opening navigation to boats, and putting up information and direction signs. We’re always looking for people who want to volunteer or get involved and we post our volunteer days on the group.

The Roding rises near Dunmore in Essex and flows down the Roding Valley to join the Thames near Barking. This group is particularly concerned with the middle section of the river, between Redbridge and Barking (where the River becomes known as Barking Creek).

The River Roding Trust organizes volunteer events to help protect and improve the River Roding, London’s third largest river. Some of the volunteer activities include:
– litter picking events to remove pollution from the water and land
– path clearing events to open up the riverside path for the public. Tree planting
– tree planting events to help create new habitats. Invasive species removal
– invasive species removal events, such as “Balsam bashing”. Water quality testing
– water quality testing events
