How We're Funded

Our Funding and Supporters

The National Park City Foundation is an independent charity based in England. We’re funded by individual donations from ordinary Londoners and businesses, along with income we secure from contract income, grants and foundations. So we really do rely on your support to make London greener, healthier and wilder.

In 2023 we received a four year grant from the Reaching Communities programme of the National Lottery Community Fund providing essential core funding for our small staff team and operations.

In 2024 we received a four year grant from the City Bridge Foundation to providing essential funding for the development of our Ranger programme in London.

In 2025 we received funding from the Green Roots fund for our small grants programme and Ranger training programmes.

We are grateful to the Crown Estate who provide our premises at 80 Mortimer Street on a meanwhile basis.

In 2023 we received a generous donation from the Peter Bennett Foundation to support our core costs and development of our partnerships and strategy.

In 2024 we benefited from match-funding support to double donations through our crowdfunder in support of our first pop-up Visitors Centre.

In 2023 we received a significant in-kind donation of outdoor media from the JCDecaux Community Channel enabling us to celebrate 40 grassroots organisations on 100 digital billboards across London.

In 2022 and 2023 we received support from the King Baudouin Foundation in support of our Ranger-led programmes and activities.

In addition to the grants and donations above we have also received donations from Pentland Brands and the Mako Foundation, and contract income from Natural England for the Happier Outdoors Festival, and the GLA for public engagement with London’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy. We’re grateful to previous donors including the VF Foundation and Timberland for their early support of our Rangers programme.

1% for the Planet inspires members of the business community to contribute 1% of sales to environmental groups like National Park City.

CITY HALL AND THE MAYOR

The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, signed the London National Park City Charter in July 2019 in City Hall, as part of celebrations for London’s new National Park City status with over 300 free events across the capital.

The National Park City Foundation collaborated with the Mayor of London’s Environment Team who funded the Festival coordination of more than 260 supporting partners and organisations.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

During our launch campaign in the run up to 2019 we received support from at least half of all councillors across London from all political parties and independents.

Local neighbourhood support is an important part of making the London National Park City a success, so if you’re a Councillor or Officer and would like to find out more about how to get involved with the London National Park City in your area please get in touch.
